Sometime in the summer of 1987 I had a meditation which brought the Eagle. The Eagle appeared very close to my face. She stared, unblinking, into my eyes. I sensed that she had words for me, but we didn't have common language. After a second or two my spirit joined hers, in her body. She shared her perspective with me in this way. We stretched and flexed her wings, then coasted into the air. It was a sensation of leaning forward off the cliff with a fall-forward momentum. There was a slight, gentle dropping then we glided, held by the air. The currents were gentle. The feathers of her body insulate and deflect the chilling or buffeting affect of the wind.

Our movement was leisurely and effortless. Changing direction was as simple as tilting our wings. Looking through her eyes, I could see the horizon in all directions. The clarity and sharpness was a sensual high for someone as nearsighted as I am. Suddenly she noticed a slight movement near a large boulder on the edge of a thickly forested hillside. Her focus changed instantly to the center. The chipmunk wasn't magnified or nearer looking-just totally focused on in a way that made it seem to take up most of our vision. The horizons, still there, became unnoticed and vague. It had the same effect as a zoom lens but without the enlargement, What an amazing perspective! I was more enthralled with her vision than by the flying! I realized that she was teaching me lessons about the microcosm and macrocosm. I need to be able to focus on the smallest of details even while taking in the whole picture.
